Responsibilities

The professionals at the National Security Agency (NSA) have one common goal: to protect our nation. The mission requires a strong offense and a steadfast defense. The offense collects, processes and disseminates intelligence information derived from foreign signals for intelligence and counterintelligence purposes. The defense prevents adversaries from gaining access to sensitive classified national security information. With the ever-accelerating technological advances and growing system complexity, NSA needs System Engineers to integrate systems and reduce the cost to operate and maintain systems. To meet these demands, the NSA hires and trains talented and highly motivated junior and senior systems engineers, electrical engineers, computer scientists, computer engineers, and other related professionals. We need our System Engineers to provide program oversight and implement Systems Engineering best practices across the organization in the NSA enterprise. The need to maintain our core System Engineers group is vital to provide the technical capabilities necessary to successfully execute NSA’s mission. Recent college graduates and junior System Engineers are hired into positions directly supporting a technical mission office or one of two Development Programs (The System Engineer Development Program (SEDP) or the Information Technology Development Program (ITDP)). The SEDP prepares recent college graduates and junior level technical staff for a career in Systems Engineering at NSA. During the three-year program, participants will rotate assignments, attend training that covers the full breadth of systems engineering disciplines, and earn DoD DAWIA and other important credentials. Job Summary

As an Engineering and Physical Science professional, you will use your skills to create the systems and tools that will be used to enhance the operation of intelligence. You will advise, administer and perform scientific projects, such as planning, designing, and constructing specialized equipment, and ensuring adherence to sound engineering and scientific standards and principles. You will primarily be responsible for supporting and delivering production capabilities to various mission organizations that are integral to Sandia’s scientific, engineering, and high-performance computing environment. Responsibilities Include:

  • Deploying scientific software tools and libraries atop a plethora of architectures and environments that span high-performance computing, cloud, build farm, and end-user analysis platforms
  • Developing infrastructure to assist with building, testing, and deploying computational simulation and scientific analysis software
  • Building interfaces between users and tools to facilitate requirements by helping to minimize impact to customers
  • Maintaining all products and attempt to predict systemic issues to ensure their availability
  • Work independently, pair program, or swarm as a Scrum team to build highly balanced solutions that support many scientific software development teams and their analysts

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical field plus four or more years of software design/development experience; or master’s degree in relevant technical field plus two (2) or more years’ software/development experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • 2+ years of DevOps experience
  • Experience with at least one of the desired qualifications
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q level clearance

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience with Linux (3+ years) including system administration, software development targeting the Linux ecosystem, and/or using Linux for computational simulation.
  • Software development experience (5+ years) with the classic and modern high-performance computing development stack (i.e., C/C++, Python, Fortran, CMake, Bash)
  • Software development experiences that use practices (e.g., test-driven development) and adherence to quality metrics (e.g., branch coverage)
  • Knowledge of SOLID code development principles
  • Experience with modern DevOps infrastructure and practices (e.g., Git, CI/CD, GitLab and its workflows, Jenkins, VMs and containers, correctness testing including static, coverage, and memory analysis)

The Scientific Applications and User Support Department provides capabilities and in-depth support for a broad range of scientific/engineering computing, including high performance computing and visualization. The department provides user environments, expertise and direct support to users, application-level software and tools, while also partnering with application communities to develop and support scientific/engineering computing solutions. The department also partners with other organizations to provide expert level Agile coaching including scrum mastering services.

GrammaTech’s internship program for SUMMER 2022 offers students the opportunity to gain real experience in a friendly, open, and supportive environment. We choose projects based on real needs, and interns work closely with engineers to make sure that projects are completed successfully.

GrammaTech will conduct a series of programming tests and screening interviews as part of our process in Python and C++..

LOCATION: Preference is to have Interns at our Research & Development Center in Ithaca, NY but remote roles may be allowed with alignment of skills. (ALL CANDIDATES MUST BE LOCATED IN THE USA TO APPLY.) Remote candidates must be in the USA.

Responsibilities:

Research projects at GrammaTech can take on a wide variety of topics and challenges. Projects focus on software assurance, software protection, reverse engineering, and software synthesis. We do both static and dynamic analysis on both source and object code, in order to tackle serious problems with practical solutions.

Potential projects include:

  • Reverse-engineering software binaries to extract information about structure and functionality
  • Developing new static analyses for binaries
  • Improving existing tooling for runtime instrumentation and introspection of programs
  • Enhancing user interfaces and workflows for reverse-engineering
  • Enhancing the robustness and scalability of existing static and dynamic analysis research prototypes in preparation for commercialization

Qualifications:

Required

  • Currently enrolled in a BS, or MS in Computer
  • Excellent programming skills in Python and C++ using Linux tools.
  • Experience working with software binaries.

Preferred

  • Experience with Ghidra, IDA Pro, Binary Ninja, or radare2
