Civil Engineer



Progressive Global Energy is recruiting for an experienced Civil Engineer (Nuclear) for a Nuclear Plant in Surry, Virginia. The upcoming projects are Crane(3 large crane mods), steam generator, heat exchange replacements and looking for rigging and handling experience.

This is a 1 year contract with high potential to extend beyond 1 year. Candidates must be willing to work a 4/10 schedule in the plant in Surry (10 hour days 4 day work weeks). Per diem will be paid 7 days per week for non-local candidates. Civil/Standard Engineer Requirements :
  • 10+ years civil and structural experience (ideal candidate can "hit the ground running")
  • Nuclear experience: Ideally New design standard process: 50.59 specifications and calculations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of engineering theories and principles
  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices
  • Equally effective working independently or in team environment
  • Proven decision-making skills
  • Ability to process information quickly and effectively manages multiple tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willing to get into the field and perform walkdowns, project management activities and support of testing and troubleshooting of plant modifications


Preferred Experience:
  • Nuclear Design Engineering experience with relevant analytical capabilities
  • Previously qualified or ability to qualify in the Standard Design Process, Engineering Calculations, Specifications and similar Nuclear Qualifications
  • Nuclear Construction and Project Implementation experience
  • Experience with foundation, steel and concrete structure, pipe support, pipe stress, and rigging
  • Familiarity with Industrial and Mechanical systems and components
  • Familiarity with Crane design and applications including NREG-0612
  • An understanding of Engineering Specifications (Procurement, Design, Installation, etc.)
  • Knowledge of ASCE, AISC and ACI Codes
  • Knowledge of primary systems (NSSS) and Balance of Plant (BOP systems)
  • Previous 10CFR50.59 Training
  • PWR Experience is preferred


Daily Responsibilities:
  • Reducing specifications, product drawings as they come in, owner's reviews, documents, review what outside venders are preparing
  • Liaise internally with Utility and externally with contract firms
  • Not involved in outages directly at this point
  • Under direction of supervisor or work leader, exercises independence in evaluating, selecting and applying standard or well-defined engineering techniques, procedures and criteria
  • Uses independent judgment in prioritizing and making moderately complex adaptations and modifications
