Manager, Database Administration

Summary of Position:

Starz Entertainment is hiring a Manager Database Administration, reporting to the Director of Cloud Infrastructure.  The Manager Database Administration will be will be responsible for availability, backup, recovery, performance, monitoring, capacity planning, and incident response of the Starz Entertainment database platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for backup, recovery, maintenance, patching, monitoring, administration, and performance/tuning of database hardware and software
  • Manage DBMS Projects including documentation of requirements, status, timelines and delivery
  • Collaborate with customers to understand and document their requirements
  • Provide technical leadership to a team of DBA’s to deliver world class multi-master, multi-region database environments supporting high availability and high through-put requirements
  • Management of vendor supplying DBA Services to Starz Entertainment
  • Directly supervise other members of the Database Administration team, including planning and resourcing projects along with operational schedules, and managing the performance and professional growth of the team members
  • Participate in Tier-2 Database Administration on-call rotation

Required Skills:

  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to affect an organization’s culture and deliver results, fostering open communication, collaboration, and transparency
  • Highly effective incident management skills, including incident communications, root cause identification, triage and mitigation
  • Ability to write and tune advanced T-SQL and PLSQL Queries
  • Sr. Level Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server including Clusters, Availability Groups, Performance and Tuning, Backup and Recovery and Security
  • Sr. Level Knowledge of Oracle 11g/12c including RMAN, Active Data Guard, Performance and Tuning, and Security
  • Strong Knowledge of AWS including DynamoDB, RDS (Aurora and SQL Server), Security Groups, VPC’s, EC2, EBS
  • Strong skill in at least 1 if not all of the following: Python, PowerShell, Ksh shell and/or Bourne shell
  • Strong skills in Linux and Window operating systems

Desired Attributes:

  • Working knowledge of Agile software development
  • Experience working with PII/CCPA/GDPR data privacy requirements
  • Experience designing and implementing DBMS systems around SOX compliance
  • Experience designing and implementing data retention policies
  • BS/MS in Engineering (or equivalent)
