DevOps Engineer Software Development Platform (f/m/x)

?Software in highly integrated electronic control units is the basis for inspiring customer experiences in the Digital Car. Feature development in the fields of e.g. autonomous driving and infotainment relies on BMW’s state-of-the-art and high-performance SW development platform. In the near future further domains will adopt it for development. Based on a distributed, hybrid cloud infrastructure, the platform provides highly available and scalable services for Continous Integration (Github, Zuul, Artifactory) and agile project management (Jira, Confluence). Several DevOps teams and IT partners develop and operate it in a scaled agile working model. They cooperate closely in an interdisciplinary, cross-location setup and use state-of-the-art technologies and concepts. Currently, the platform serves thousands of users in the vehicle software projects, executing a vast number of build jobs every day. The plan is to significantly expand the capacity and service offering.

What awaits you?

You‘ll actively take the fundamental platform to the next level regarding performance and features to support the growing share of software in the car:

  • You‘ll develop concepts, architectures and solutions for the integration of new services as part of the development platform and ensure operation of the services in the highly available setup.
  • You define reference configurations and develop blueprints for the application of the new services in various SW integration projects and advise the projects on the proper usage of the new services.
  • You‘ll design scale-out concepts combining private and public cloud services to cater for growing load. Your tasks include evaluation of technical and economic aspects in order to identify the most efficient architecture.
  • You cooperate with highly motivated peers in cross-functional scrum teams leveraging state-of-the-art technologies and products.
  • To ensure a perfect implementation, you’ll keep yourself up to date proactively regarding the latest technologies, implementation patterns, and agile development methods to apply them in a DevOps model.

What you should bring along?

  • University degree in Computer Sciences or related subjects.
  • Knowledge of process, methods and tools in the context of contemporary software development
  • Sound competencies in software development and IT systems, e.g., cloud-based architectures, infrastructure as code (Ansible, Docker, Terraform, etc.), site reliability engineering (SRE), security.
  • Expertise in design, development, test and maintenance of highly available automation solutions
  • Self-reliant and goal-oriented thinking and acting as well as a strong customer orientation.
  • High level of quality awareness.

About BMW Group

Everything starts with passion at the BMW Group. It turns a profession into a vocation. It drives us to keep reinventing mobility and bringing innovative ideas onto the roads. Enthusiasm for joint projects turns a team into a strong unit where every opinion is valued. More than 90% of automotive innovations are based on electronics and software. That's why creative freedom and lateral thinking are so important in the pursuit of truly new solutions. Naturally, that includes flexible working models, so that our IT specialists are free to go in unconventional directions. To revolutionise the future of mobility, one has to go ahead and set standards today. Intelligent technologies that are increasingly taking over driving tasks and providing greater safety and comfort are already in use in our vehicles. Increasing our lead in autonomous driving will need visionary thinkers and creative developers. Specialists in the fields of machine learning, artificial intelligence, sensor technology and software development will work in expert teams, in centers of excellence networked around the world, to redefine the limits of what is possible. With vehicle software becoming ever more complex, it’s not just who uses the cleverest algorithms but how they are integrated that will increasingly determine the future of mobility. Modern tools are needed in order for the code to have an impact where it counts. However, even more important is the right people with the perspective to ensure all these separate elements “come together on the road”. But new possibilities often go hand in hand with new risks. With the increased networking of vehicle systems and therewith rising exchange of big data, one has to face a constantly growing risk of cyber-attacks. Protecting automotive IT from these threats is essential in order to bring innovative systems safely onto the roads. Which is why we need experts who live and breathe IT security and who can use innovative software solutions to develop countermeasures from threat analysis through to suitable security architecture and implementation.
