Bilingual WIC Nutritionist

The WIC nutritionists perform program eligibility and nutritional assessment for individual clients. They plan and coordinate nutrition services for WIC clients and community as it relates to health and nutrition using principles specific to pediatrics, adolescents, and adults. Services include nutritional planning, determination of supplemental food needs and provision of breastfeeding supplies. The WIC nutritionists provide individual and group education in nutrition, breastfeeding and health issues. They attend special events to raise public awareness about the program as well as health and nutrition issues. The WIC nutritionists perform hospital visits with clients and provide referrals for any other necessary services. Additionally, nutritionists prepare education materials and education development and outreach initiatives.


Typical Duties

  • Provide competent/professional nutritional counseling on a one-on-one basis
  • Prepare and provide for the director monthly written communication, correspondence and reports of client participation and priority status
  • Supervise outreach/community nutritional services
  • Assess, evaluates and interprets nutritional/medical data and assigns risk factors/during the certification process
  • Takes diet history and counsels clients on their nutritional needs. Reviews nutritional education materials with clients
  • Certifies eligible participants and prescribes food package
  • Conduct nutrition education classes using the lesson plans and guidelines provided by DHS (Department of Human Services)
  • Provide nutrition outreach services (i.e. satellite site and community activities)
  • Download and explain food packages on clients’ EBT cards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Reporting Relationships

Report to the Administrative Director of WIC and Women’s Health Services

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years or more experience in nutrition
  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or nursing required from an accredited college or university
  • Must be knowledgeable of the WIC certification process and other related procedures (i.e., nutritional counseling/education)
  • Some pediatric and maternal experience
  • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish are required
  • Must be able to maintain a professional attitude and disposition under stressful conditions
  • Must enjoy working with infants and children
  • Must be able to travel to work sites throughout Roseland Community Hospital’s service areas and community events

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years or more experience in public health setting
  • Master’s degree in nutrition or nursing

·         Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
