Job Overview:

Our client's Distribution Standards department is requesting an Electrical Materials Engineer to provide a diverse skillset for the analysis of failed equipment. A Material Science background will provide expanded insight to the material aspect of electrical equipment such as aluminum, lead, copper, porcelain, polymers, composites, and enclosures. This will also support the Fault Tree Analysis initiative and identify failure trends, which will drive the further development of material constructions and material specifications, targeted areas for training and manufacturer feedback, ultimately improving system reliability and resiliency. As a result, this will reinforce Engineering & Smart Grid’s vision and key performance measure of top industry percentile in Operational Performance.

Job Requirements

Some Duties Include:

  • Performing failure analysis and generate reports on several different electrical distribution equipment types
  • Support the Fault Tree Analysis initiative
  • Share findings with Engineering and external stakeholders, such as Safety Council Overhead and Underground forums
  • Identify trends in the analyzed failures using PowerBI
  • Generate monthly Failure Analysis Reports
  • Daily inspection for failed material that arrived from the regions
  • Transportation of the failed material bins to the Forensics lab
  • Logging of failed material into the Failure Analysis database
  • Photograph failed material
  • Use of the Interruption Reporting System to extract outage information
  • Continued learning of electric power system equipment from SMEs
  • Dispose equipment after analysis completed and recorded
  • Working down backlog of items still in the queue to be analyzed
  • Ability to operate equipment associated with analyzing material
  • Provide tours of the Forensics Lab to internal and external stakeholders

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree
  • Willingness to learn electric power system equipment and functionality
  • Proven leadership skills
