Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operating safety equipment and using safe work habits
Welding components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
Igniting torches or starting power supplies and striking arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits
Clamping, holding, tack-welding, heat-bending, grinding, or bolting component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
Detecting faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifying supervisors
Operating manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding
Monitoring the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material
Examining work pieces for defects and measuring work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
Recognizing, setting up, and operating hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment
Laying out, positioning, aligning, and securing parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers
Removing debris, including spills, from work areas
Removing hazardous materials
Completing assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness
Knowing safety rules to ensure that all safety guidelines are being followed as far as the state of work areas
Monitoring the condition and maintenance of work areas to ensure adequate work conditions
Other duties may be assigned.

- Improve production machinery using tools and techniques at machine repair's disposal
- Maintain stock of repair parts for repair facility
- Perform scheduled maintenance on the machines
