Sr. Project Engineer

Purpose of the job:

Independently plans, coordinates, and designs new and modifies existing electrical underground and/or overhead distribution infrastructure. Performs various project functions including feasibility and estimation of specific project proposals. Manages project deliverables while meeting schedule, time, and budgetary constraints.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Regularly interacts with clients, customers, contractors, and developers
  • Acquires, reviews, and submits federal, state and local permits
  • Track jobs according to client and company procedures
  • Produce routine and project-specific correspondence
  • Adhere to client-specific electrical distribution standards, procedures, and requirements
  • Apply correct design standards, codes, and requirements
  • Coordinates underground and overhead design for riser re-locates
  • Request right-of-way boundaries and marks sensitive resources
  • Identify and verify existing underground and overhead utilities
  • Visit job sites, client offices, municipalities, and other agencies as needed
  • Completes and reviews as-builts
  • Consider other factors in order to make optimal design solutions
  • Accurately tracks time spent on jobs, the mileage, and materials needed to perform duties
  • Follow general safety guidelines and wear appropriate PPE

    • Education, Certifications and/or Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university
  • 2 to 4 years’ proven experience in electrical utility design including GIS work
  • Understands and can navigate through Microstation with ease
  • Knowledge of electrical theory, principles, and practices relating to electric distribution and transmission engineering
  • Able to use various measuring equipment and understand units of measure
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and routine office equipment
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license

    • Working Conditions and Environmental/Physical Demands:

    Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the Firm; must also be able to work at a desk for long periods of time (2-3 hours); strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.

    • Manage campus electrical engineering projects and other construction projects
    • Supervise construction and commissioning of engineering projects
    • Coordinate construction phase of project
    • Maintain project design and commissioning documentation
    • Manage engineering and project records
    • Manage projects from early conceptual engineering through project completion
    • Work with outside engineering firms for assistance in engineering design, project management and project facilitation
    • Perform preliminary process engineering/design work
    • Recommend advantageous changes to the project team leader or project engineer
