Director of Brokerage Operations

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Vice President of Brokerage Operations who is a goal orientated and results driven candidate to help grow our truckload and partial truckload brokerage division. Our company was built around offering a full suite of transportation services complimented with user-friendly technology and world class customer service. We are seeking experienced leadership to help ignite growth and establish a detailed roadmap that improves our brokerage division. This individual will act as a strategic and tactical representative to facilitate and accomplish our business goals including, but not limited to: managing a freight portfolio, provide and negotiate freight rates, building carrier and customer relationships, leverage knowledge of the business and industry to influence and impact our decision-making process. In this position you will be leading the carrier development while also maintaining and growing our relationships with current customers. This individual will be responsible for creating an environment where all team members are internally competitive, high performing, self-motivated, and able to follow established procedures.

  • Develop and maintain best business practices and carrier sales strategies
  • Create and implement standard operating procedures within the truckload division
  • Manage the coordination of freight movements
  • Focus on carrier relationship development, negotiated rates and service reliability
  • Monitors operations and financial KPI’s
  • Continuously developing pricing on all lanes
  • Responsible for customer and account management, including consistent and professional communications to deal with escalations and difficult situations
  • Develops, manages, and ensures compliance and appropriate use of carriers according to legal and industry guidelines
  • Work closely with our sales representatives to execute high level customer service
  • Maintain a growing active carrier base with detailed equipment and resources
  • Ensure team development and growth aligns with our business and development goals

Ability, Knowledge, & Skills:

  • 7 + years of related experience within the industry
  • Non asset based and asset based experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of transportation management systems
  • Experience with North American transportation modes (LTL, Truckload, Intermodal)
  • Ability to develop long-term relationships
  • Strong management skills and leadership presence to command and motivate the department
  • Results-driven
  • Robust market knowledge
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills and ability to think and respond quickly to service issues
  • Flexible: Ability to change focus quickly and meet demands of market conditions or company needs
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and co-workers
