MITRE’s National Security New Professionals Accelerator Program ( https://sites.mitre.org/newprofessionals/ ) is seeking highly motivated, early career candidates passionate about solving problems for a safer world. This program will provide unique work opportunities, onboarding, and mentoring to build your skills as a future leader. You will accelerate your career while preparing for impactful, rewarding work at MITRE. You will interact with a diverse group of program peers, MITRE national security leaders, and staff solving real-world problems. Over the course of this structured six-month program, you will hone your skills and develop strong professional networks in the national security sector and across our Innovation Centers, helping solve critical national challenges. Before transitioning to MITRE’s permanent national security or technical staff, you will benefit from the following program pillars:

Job Responsibilities:
Working alongside MITRE mission specialists and engineers, you will be supporting national security sponsors while helping to design, develop, and implement solutions and technologies to address the data science and analytics challenges of our government sponsors. You will learn about MITRE sponsor missions and apply your technical knowledge and skills to problem-solving and innovation. At the culmination of the New Professional Program, you will become part of MITRE’s National Security team focused on sponsor missions with a strong technical background enabling you to be a future leader in the company.

What does an ideal MITRE New Professional Data Scientist have?

Hands-on experience gained from previous work experience or relevant intern/co-op work

Applied knowledge of data science and analytics principles, tools, and devices

Proficiency in a range of techniques and languages for performing data analysis at scale

Interdisciplinary background with at least of one of those disciplines being data science, computer science, or a related field

Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in data science, computer science, data analytics, statistics, math, or a related field of study and two years of relevant experience

Proficiency in one or more of the following: Python (scikit-learn, numpy, pandas, Jupyter), Scala/Java, C/C++/C#, Objective C; Database design & development (SQL, Neo4J, MongoDB); AWS (Sagemaker, S3)
Preferred Qualifications :

1-3 years of experience in data science principles, tools, and devices

Experience working projects related to national security for one or more government agencies

Interdisciplinary background, with evidence of continual learning
-
Understanding of or experience with statistical software and data visualization tools such as R, SPSS, SAS, and UNIX shell scripting

Hands on proficiency using data science techniques, including machine learning, deep learning, statistical modeling, and data visualization
-
Ability to find patterns in data and clearly articulate the entire analysis (i.e., methodology, results, assumptions, constraints) using various suites of tools
-
Experience applying various machine learning approaches (e.g., random forest, neural networks, support vector machines)
-
Experience developing interactive data visualizations using open-source web technologies (Angular, Vue, React, D3.js) or other frameworks (Shiny, Plotly, Dash)

Experience developing data-intensive full stack containerized web applications using Node.js, Flask, Django, or other technologies

Familiarity with working in cloud-based environments like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure

Experience working with big data analytic environments including Apache Spark, Presto, Impala, or other distributed SQL engines
