2021 Beals Healthy Streams Fellow

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Beals Healthy Streams Fellow may do research and review
scientific literature, map data, assist with fieldwork, attend
meetings with partners, and other work to advance the Healthy
Streams Initiative.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • May interact with partner organizations and the public.
  • Works under close or infrequent supervision.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations
    for long periods of time in isolated settings, on difficult and
    hazardous terrain and under physically demanding
    circumstances.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age during the time of
    the fellowship.
  • Applicant must be either an undergraduate student from a
    four-year Kansas college or university; or a graduate student in a
    degree-granting program at a Kansas college or university.
  • Students who graduate in the spring are eligible to
    apply.

  • Currently studying towards a degree in natural resource
    management, wildlife biology, environmental science, water
    resources, or related field.
  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Research interests in fields complementary to the mission of
    the Beals Healthy Streams Initiative.
  • Experience with mapping, GIS, and ArcGIS.
  • Comfortable with basic office software, such as Microsoft Word,
    Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; Zoom; cloud collaboration tools
    such as Google Documents or Box Tools; and web browsers.
  • Able to work independently and with a team.
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and access to a
    vehicle.
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural
    experience appreciated.
  • AUTO SAFETY POLICY

    This position requires a valid driver’s license and compliance
    with the Conservancy’s Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive
    Conservancy-owned / leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal
    vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered “high risk
    drivers.

    Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion
